The Virginia Synod is Forwarding Faith! Here are some of the ways that the churches of the Virginia Synod have become lead supporters in the ForwardingFaith Campaign.
“Café Dennis” at Holy Trinity, Lynchburg
The people of Holy Trinity in Lynchburg gathered recently with special guest Bishop James Mauney for an evening of fun, fellowship, dancing and dining, all to benefit ForwardingFaith. Attendees savored a delicious meal and participated in a silent auction. After the event, the Church Council approved an additional generous gift to FowardingFaith.
St. Michael, Virginia Beach Offerings
Last year St. Michael Lutheran Church dedicated their Advent offerings to ForwardingFaith. This year their offerings from Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday will support the campaign. Pastor Stephen Bohannon says that this is one way for their church not only to show their love for Jesus, but by “recognizing the importance and impact the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries has had on the youth of the Virginia Synod. St. Michael wanted to add our support from the very start.”
Pancake Supper at Gloria Dei, Hampton
Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hampton goes above and beyond when it comes to faith formation. Pastor Phyllis Milton,
Synodical Minister for Christian Formation, is also Associate Pastor at Gloria Dei. Gloria Dei Lutheran School is an educational ministry of the congregation where Pastor Milton serves as chaplain. The donations from the congregation’s Shrove Tuesday pancake supper were donated to ForwardingFaith.
First English, Richmond Mission Fund Gift
First English Lutheran Church in Richmond is in a prime location on Monument Avenue. The historic building is known to
show up in tourist photos and news segments. The members also have a prime spotas giving one of the first congregational lead gifts in the ForwardingFaith Campaign. The Benevolence Mission Fund Committee voted to use 10% of undesignated bequests to the church for the Campaign. “Youth ministry and faith formation are critical to future generations in the Synod,” wrote Jeff Nelson, the chair of the social ministry committee.
Christ the King, Richmond Tithed
Christ the King Lutheran Church in Richmond celebrated its 50th anniversary in part by conducting a “Jubilee Campaign.” The congregation chose to share their generosity by tithing the campaign’s gifts to FowardingFaith.
